common speedwell is very similar to thyme-leafed speedwell, but the leaves are significantly larger! this variety of speedwell prefers open areas like fields, unlike its smaller and more urbanized cousins the thyme-leaf and corn speedwells. common speedwell isn't much of a lawn weed, and doesn't thrive in disturbed soil; it's more common in meadows, pasture, and forests. it likes a bit of shade.
in its native europe it was often used as a medicinal herb for various purposes, and its leaves can make a bitter tea.

common speedwell blooms from may through august.
