green and gold

green and gold (Chrysogonum virginianum)
native-adjacent, cultivated
picture taken in late may

this flower is native to north america, but not to the northeast. apparently it's usually more a southern flower; particularly, as you might guess from the name, virginia. it seems happy here nonetheless! there's a big cluster of it in a flowerbed, apparently planted by previous residents. it doesn't get watered or anything, it just happily does its thing. it likes the shade and moist soil - you have to water it if it's in the sun.
intriguingly, this mass.gov section suggests it as a native pollinator-friendly plant, although it isn't actually native to massachusetts and i'm having trouble finding information on what pollinators like it specifically. its native range seems to be somewhat in dispute/unclear; it's only in one of the books i have, and there its range is listed as not getting any further north than southern pennsylvania.

green-and-gold blooms from april through the summer, "sporadically"
