not officially considered "invasive" in massachusetts, but described by the native plant trust as "one of the most widespread invasive plants in the world". mouse-ear chickweed grows in just about any soil, and is generally considered a nuisance as it grows in lawns. the lawn here is chock full of its tiny flowers in late may. it grows close to the ground in mats. it's called "mouse-ear" for its fuzzy leaves, apparently! the leaves are apparently edible. the audobon society says to boil them.

mouse-ear chickweed blooms from may through october.
