thyme-leafed speedwell

thyme-leafed speedwell (Veronica serpyllifolia ssp. serpyllifolia)
non-native, weed
photos taken mid-may

a plant with extremely difficult to photograph tiny flowers! there are two subspecies (ssp) of veronica serpyllifolia - humifusa, which is native, and serpyllfolia. they are nearly identical, but humifusa flowers are rather blue and, as you can only kinda see here, serpyllfolia is mostly white, with a bit of blue on the inside.
this speedwell tolerates lots of different amounts of light and all kinds of soil. it grows in clusters and can form dense groundcover mats.

thyme-leaf speedwell blooms from april through july.
